Cadwell Park 29/6/13 Race

Result: 17th overall, winner class C

Following qualifying we gave the ignition system a check over to try to get to the bottom of the cause of the misfire and although we didn’t find a clear problem we hoped the car would run better in the race.

Matt made a good start and started to make up places but the missfire was still there, clearing on some laps and coming back on others, despite this the twists and turns of Cadwell clearly suited both car and the two drivers, by the pitstop on lap 10 Matt had made it up to 19th from 27th on the grid. Following a textbook pitstop Mark was out on track and the misfire was back with a vengeance for the first 4 laps of his stint before it seemed to improve towards the end of the race. In spite of the fact that the car was down on power for some of the time Marky took several places including passing cars who’d overtaken us in the pitstop phase to put us into 17th by the chequered flag and giving us our first class win this season.

Cadwell Park 29/6/13 Swinging Sixties Qualifying

It’s been a few years since either Mark or Matt have raced at Cadwell and that was cut short by a mechanical failure so they were both re learning the circuit for the first part of qualifying. Bluebell also seemed to be suffering from a slight misfire at high rpm under full throttle and a red flag stopped the session for five minutes half way through but even taking these factors into consideration 27th on the grid out of 32 cars was a bit disappointing on the face of it. However when you analyse the grid it becomes apparent that this race, combining the group 1 and 2 cars together, was fairly ‘heavy’ with the faster classes from group 2 and had this been a group1 race we would have been much closer to the front. We know that we do still need to work on our qualifying pace though!
